The farm

In their words.

Plum River Farm is located in the rolling hills of Jo Daviess County, in the northwest section of Illinois. Our Hereford BEEF cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, eating only fresh grass and hay that we grow ourselves without pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers. We do not feed our animals antibiotics or hormones, and we ensure the health and well-being of our animals by following the stringent standards developed by the American Grassfed Association. We process our beef between May and September, when the animals are eating mainly grass from our lush pastures, thus ensuring the best quality and nutritional value possible. We begin accepting preorders in late January for pickup at the farm during our processing season. Customers may choose many aspects of how their beef is cut and packaged. Our animals are processed at a small, family-run, USDA-inspected facility located only 15 miles from our farm, where they are dispatched quickly and humanely. The beef dry ages for 2–3 weeks before cutting and packaging to enhance texture and flavor. Please email us with questions!
