In their words.
Big Oaks Ranch, established in Rusk County, Texas in the late 1800s–early 1900s, raises grass-fed BEEF and goats, and pastured eggs. We run a small herd (14) of Black Brangus mama cows. We purchased Charlie Moon, our Brangus grass-fed bull, when he was 6 months old and raised ALL our mama cows. Calves are born in late Fall, weaned in Summer, and finished on grass for slaughter at 24–36 months. We provide supplemental alfalfa and stockpiled hay (winter grass) during winter months and slaughter twice a year, in November, and February. Our goal is to produce and market INTEGRITY BEEF, grass fed for healthy, tender, tasty beef free of supplemental hormones, antibiotics, grain, or grain products. We achieve this goal through organic planning, selective breeding, and grass farming. Our organically raised INTEGRITY BEEF is consigned, slaughtered and custom packaged at 'The Butcher Block' in Gilmer, Texas; it is owned by Tony Barnes and state inspected. Owner-producer Danny Burrows counsels and discusses cut orders with customers and observes, directs, and helps Tony cut and package each calf to meet each customer's specifications. After slaughter, the meat is cooled SLOWLY and aged 14 day…
Big Oaks Ranch lists grass-fed and pasture-raised on their public-facing materials. These are the producer’s own claims; we do not independently audit them.
